That is correct. The first PS3 had a hardware PS2 chip, next generation had a SOFTWARE PS2 emulater. The 1st generation had heating problems. The configuration size of hard drive is not an indicator if it is PS2 compatable either as Sony made 80gig PS3's that did PS2
and did NOT have PS2.

I have both 60gig and 80gig that have PS2 ability.

The main reason I have 2,is the Formula 1game and live in the country with no online gameing. I pay $80 a month for satelilite internet that still is to slow (ping delay) to do gameing.

The earlier PS3 you could play PS2 games on
That was the big selling point with the PS3
I have a early one and have done it
I hear that the new ones you can't

Subject: [Ferrari] NFC: PS3?s

Doing some searches today and found out that the "soon" to be released Gran Turismo 5 is supposed to include the Dunsfold Aerodrome racetrack where Top Gear does their car tests, Star in a Reasonably Priced Car, etc. Of course it's being released for PS3, and I only have PS2. Couple of questions: Can one play PS2 games on PS3? Any other relevant info appreciated as well.

Thanks very much,
