I thought 134a was going away like R12 (reg freon).

Subject: [Ferrari] Useful product / joint venture - update

Hello Friends,

Last week I contacted a high quality Dallas-based A/C contractor who specializes in retro A/C kits for Jaguar and Porsche. Their kits upgrade existing A/C or add A/C to these cars, completely maintaining original look-n-feel. The reason for the call was to arrange for my E-Type Jag to be updated to modern A/C (to be usable in Houston's summers). And although successful in that venture, that isn't where the discussion ended.

We are now engineering a plug-n-play modern A/C kit for the 308! The kit will replace everything but mount directly into the original locations, using the same vents plus optional, additional face/body vents under either side of the outer dash ends. Mega-strong airflow is planned. Modern Sanden compressors will be used (like on the 3t28s). New hoses communicate with the rest of the system including a new condenser that attaches to the stock mount-points. The evaporator tucks in under the dash. And because the new technology is more efficient, everything new fits in the same space as the old stuff - and is reversible.

My 308GTB will host the prototype and I will photo-document the installation (for marketing and subsequent DIY instruction manuals). We're guessing that the whole new kit will come in just over $2200 retail, as that is about what the Jag and Porsche kits cost. The R134a charge will be done either at home or at an A/C service shop.

Mind you, I am not marketing or Spamming because I have nothing to sell. I am simply reporting that my car is to be the prototype for a 308 that can be used in higher summer temperatures. And as I am restoring my car's interior, we can start with a totally stripped out car - although that will not be needed for the upgrade.

Happy Saturday,

-rick
