Considering how regularly-serviced the Challenge cars were, I'd be less concerned with the drivetrain than I would-be with the bodywork.  It was, after all, an AMATEUR race series - there was a lot of Fender-rubbing in those days, and very-few survivors left the track unscathed.
 
By the time I saw the 360s being driven in Challenge races, there were cars that not-only crashed into each other, but caught fire and burned on the side of the track (to the delight of the crowd).  Wanna pay top-dollar for one of those?
