I had always babied my clutch, but I did have an issue with my throttle cable coming apart, which put undue stress on my clutch during that time.  When my mechanic tore-down my engine, he remarked that my clutch was TOAST.  I have 33K on the clock.....oh well.  Compared to brake discs, aftermarket exhausts, and other items people throw money at on a 308, a new clutch is less than $700 and easy for the DIY person to replace so there's little to get excited about.

My experience has been that many clutches have been replaced because the shop needed the business........as in, Gee, your clutch is feeling a little soft, maybe we should take car of it while it is here to have the wipers replaced.

But, that may not be true ( in all cases)
