Yeah, the Marriott was something else indeed....Yep. It was my post on that day 9 years go.
I watched a documentary last night about the Marriott at Ground Zero and the events happening in the hotel that morning. They interviewed a writer who was a guest that morning doing research for his book about a terrorist attack on NYC. Another guy was on the 19th floor who survived the first tower falling and then was taken down the south stairwell with FDNY. They hit the first floor just as the second tower started falling and crushed the remaining upper floors of the hotel.
Thee only reason they survived was due to the fact that the 1993 bomb went off under the hotel's main ballroom and during the rebuilding process, they created a much stronger structure on that end of the hotel. Lots of steel i beams.
Dumb luck or fate that they got down to that area at just the right moment.
BTW, the '93 bombing came close to being it's own 9/11....worse even, because if they had taken out the columns as planned the building would most likely have tipped over and that wouldn't have been pretty.
