Re: Defective New 3.2 Head gaskets?

Very familiar story.

One thing worth checking though is that the studs are not stretched and the head nuts are bottoming out on the studs – I’ve seen this happen too. This is particularly an issue if the heads were shaved at all. Also check the cylinder protrusion above the deck – too much by a whisker and the water and oil channels will never seal.

If all else fails, you can try one of the aftermarket gaskets (i.e. not an Elring).

Subject: [Ferrari] Defective New 3.2 Head gaskets?

Hey Boys,
Anyone ever heard of bad replacement head gaskets? My mechanic has put two sets of new head gaskets on my 3.2 Mondial and both sets leaked during a coolant pressure test. We checked the heads for warpage and they were great.   I'm hearing from him and another mechanic that the manufacturer has either changed some specs or bad quality control and this is becoming more of a problem over the last year or so. One mechanic tells me he has had an F40 in his shop for over 2 years trying to get this head gasket issue fixed with the manufacturer. It apparently effects a few different models so far.
Now what does a guy do? Any suggestions? This is totally rediculous. I want my car back already!

Thanks!

Rick
