Ahhh Yesh - 1967. The AAR Eagles. While working with Ferrari Willi, AKA
Ferrari Bubba, we went to the AAR Santa Ana shop quite often. Lots of good
times. Gurney is a big fellow, in size, in heart, and in manners. When I
was taking pictures of the new 12 cylinder Westlake Eagle all porcupined in
body monocoque sheets I knew I was looking at something special - just how
special I didn't appreciate at the time.
Ach - those were the days - thank you Willi DOUG----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry T" <l02turner [at] comcast.net>

I used to watch Speed religiously - every morning at 7 AM they had a programabout racing through the years. called "Legends of Motorsports"I came across a VHS tape showing the F-1 cars of 1967 racing around the bigNurburgring track - 14 some mi I believe - D Gurney is in the lead and C Amon is in the Ferrari with the "bundle of snakes" exhaust - but the mostspectacular thing is seeing them get airborne! one car looked like it was 3'in the air! Wow! What a spectacular event! Wish I could have seen a race there in person.... Gurney's Eagle was incredible - until the last lap when a driveshaft broke. Bummer...... Denny Hulme eventually won in a Repco-Brabham - Ferrari was 3rd...
