On my car, switching the relays did transfer the problem to the
other side.
I would have to look at the wiring diagram again (Paul?), but it
seems a flakey relay allows the motor to cycle past some limit
switches.
I couldn't find a new relay locally, so I had to order one. While waiting
for it to show up, I opened the faulty relay and bent the contacts.
It has been functioning fine for 6 years or so now, and the new relay
is kicking around in the glove box somewhere.....

Problem solved. I only had to switch the relays like many of you suggested and Voilà! Problem solved. Now my question is: How come this solves the problem ? Why is the right side not going up and down endlessly when its relay was on the left side ?There must be a logical explanation somewhere. Please don't think I can't handle the truth. Ah! Ah!To think I drove like this for 9 years. Funny hei!Michael Savard (1981 308GTSi)
