Yep, almost every year there a story about someone involved in F1 who gets robbed, their car stolen, laptops, etc.. at that race.

 

I've heard that the drivers/teams do not bring spouses or family to that one, because of all the crime.

 Not at all. A few years ago the Jaguar team was robbed at the track (items were stolen, do not recall any people from the team involved in any confrontation). Sao Paolo is a very crime ridden city.
