My '87 USA TR made 330hp (+/- 1 hp) sans cats on dyno runs a year apart. That's about a 15% loss depending on which top line hp figure you use. I've got to believe that the TR's drop gears and lay shaft gears eat a big chunk of hp compared to a classic front engine/rear drive setup with a straight through (input shaft to output shaft) 1:1 top gear.

Well, here's where my math "skills" are called into play. Â562-450=112 hp loss. ÂThat's 19.9% loss from a claimed 562. ÂI've always heard that a driveline loss to RWP of anywhere from 15 to maybe 25% is always possible. Â25% of 562 would be a loss of 140.5 hp.

Ah yeah I call bullshit on that.

450 hp out a motor that claims 562 at the crank? Thats a 25% driveline loss... I don't think so. At most its probably 18%, but more likely around 15%... So it should see 480-490 at the wheels, and likely is under-rated from the factory a bit anyhow (at least most American muscle engines are).

Indeed, I was fully expecting to see no mention of dyno gains or something on the order of 10-15rwhp gains.

A guy I know and some mods done to a 355 and the cost was about $12k for full header, cats, mufflers, etc.

The dyno shop was "out of order" that day conveniently.

Anyone else surprised at the power gains? Ferrari doesnât normally leave that much on the table.
