Did the E55s come with the premium leather as standard?

I have a friend who has a nice looking (exterior)  E350 diesel but the interior feels like plastic.

The 03 E-class are notorious for electrical issues, and for being light on options.  Almost no 03's had NAV.  Go with 04 or newer.  The E55 is a killer car - fantastic motor!
