I guess, like most on the list we never meet in person, and I never met Tom.
His observations of the world of motor sports were spot on. I enjoyed his
memories of CanAm along with those of Ferrari Bubba. We lived in California
and were at the same events (Riverside, Onterio, Startdust).
I remember in August helping him set up a new email address.Strange how in your mind your 30 going on 40, while in reality, will I don't need to tell you who are there and the words would be lost are those that aren't.
Our thoughts are with Karen and memories are with Tom who we never met but shared experiences.

Back in December Tom had told me privately what was going on. My response was typically Australian with a few expletives. His reply indicated he knew how severe it was. I guess I was fortunate in that I got to meet Tom back in 2002 (I think) while in the US on vacation before moving here a few years later. Tom and Karen kindly took us in for a few days while we explored the area (Tombstone, Bisbee etc) as part of a road trip we did. Tom will always be remembered by me as a kind and gentle man, passionate about his family - his lovely wife Karen, daughter Cristy and grandsons - passionate about cars, and passionate about cycling. He also had a fondness for Australia - Adelaide in particular. I also know that Tom was hurting financially. He had been laid off several months ago (around June last year I recall), and had only recently found a new job. He needed to sell his beloved Camaro to pay for the initial gallbladder surgery as his new health insurance hadn't kicked in at that stage. This is all information he had shared on the list with us, and many of the 'old timers' here will remember the hit Tom took, along with so many others, during the tech crash 10 years ago. Tom had just retired at that time and his entire 401K was wiped out. This financial disaster ultimately led to Tom and Karen selling their beautiful Tucson home and moving to Oklahoma, and Tom re-entering the workforce again. Again, all this was publicly shared here on the list over the years. I am not good at this type of thing, but if other people on the list think it appropriate, maybe we could do some sort of fundraiser for Karen? At the very least, I would like to think we could put together some sort of fitting tribute and send it to her. It was only late Nov he mentioned he was having Gall Bladder Surgery. No indication that they knew cancer was involved then. Then he posted after his surgery in Dec about wanting to speak to an Oncologist. To only get 8 weeks after diagnosis is a terrifying thought, since anyone of us could have it now too and not know it.
