Well Steve -
Sure met a lot of nice people world wide
here
Even rekindled a mid-sixties friendship with my old
roomie Ferrari Willi, AKA Ferrari Bubba.
I like your simple straight
forward format.
Thanks
DOUG

Ferrari List?
Yup - Winter '95. Started originally on a Majordomo list
on a spare server at New Mexico Tech in Socorro. It stayed there for
about 6 years, until they "noticed" a non-school related email list
:)
I think the first week it had about 100 subscribers. And it
grew steadily until about 2000-2001. Then it leveled off at about
800-900. Then I moved it to a "personal" server, still using
Majordomo.
Then in 2003(maybe '04?) one of our previous members thought
it would be a good idea to send spam reports on the 1 or 2 spams/month that
made it through. Which, of course, put the whole server on several blacklists
(which not suprisingly makes it a BIGGER target for spammers). So I had
to shut it down.
It was down for a few months, until I moved it
to a Mailman list server (*on somebody else's network*), so it's about
$150/year but it doesn't affect my professional servers. Once this
started, I sent an email to all the old subscribers with the new information -
and only about 200 returned initially. It's grown slowly since then, and has
mostly leveled off.
