Does anyone believe that when the CIA & Sec of Defense came to Obama and told him they had Bin Laden's lair under surveillance, and all they needed was the OK to go after him, and that Obama was going to say , " No , just leave him be" ? With dozens if not hundreds of CIA employees in the know, can you imagine the damage to Obama when it was leaked that Obama had a chance to get Bin Laden and decided against it, say right before the 2012 election? Even a Barney Fife would know what decision needed to be made. Obama didn't need 16 hours to '"sleep " on the decision. Everyone knew it was a no brainer.

Beyond the predictable swipes at W, notable was the essential incoherence of Alter's defense of PBO's foreign policy. JONATHAN ALTER: This is the hand he's been dealt by hisotry.
