When we lived in Shanghai, I vividly remember the first time I had baijiu with my wife (it was a Chinese New Year party).  My exact words were "6000 years of history, and this is the best they could come up with?"

My wife's classic response:

"Dear, you don't know where they started."

Hello,
Two neat beverages are MAITAI Chinese liquor made from fermented mare's milk but you have to go to Inner Mongolia usually to buy it. It actually is smoother than the grain based MAITAIs.
The other more Bourbon like drink is TEQUILA ALMENDRADA which is Tequila aged in almond shells in wooden barrels for several years. Usually larger Mexico liquor stores carry a brand or two.
As to homemade USA moonshine, remember the old distillers adage:
"Always use a fresh possum to start each mash tank!"
           Enjoy guys!
