He's not a Muslim so the whisky is okay. I like the idea of a sports jersey; I think his sport of choice is soccer.

Listen does he have an aid that you can call to find out what this guy
likes?
I would go with a sports jersey myself from a winning team in basketball
Or maybe a NASCAR T ( don't beat me please but they NASCAR are everywhere
like roaches) Bottom line is this guy is a General in a 3rd world country he is getting
whatever he needs to stay in power!
Stay out of the papers!

Martin,
I have a buddy with a lot of experience, as he travels to Africa training
various armies as a contractor with the US dept of state. His suggestion:
" Booze can be tricky (lots of Muslims, at least publicly). You want to give
them high status items. Based on the price range I would go with designer
accessories. Sunglasses, cuff links, etc."

Regards,
Dave

I'm traveling to Africa from New England and would like to bring a nice gift
for my host. He's a high ranking officer (general) in his country's
military and probably has access to pretty much what ever he desires. I'm
thinking a bottle of Tennessee whisky (Dickel) and would like to bring
something additional in the dollar range of a few hundred or so. Any
suggestions???
