Great drawing David!!  Ayup, that looks like the issue.

My 308 is SN 21017 and the headlight assembly is like parts #1 and #24 (the assembly on the left). The #1 container covers the #12 bracket which is held together by the #2 screws. I need to get that #1 container off to remove the headlight.  Unfortunately, the #2 screws are covered by the fender.

I tried removing the #5 actuator arm but could not rotate the headlight up high enough to get those screws clear.  Something is holding the lamp assembly from rotating high enough.

So, for now I’m going with just replacing the H4 bulbs and the new wiring/relay harness.  The headlights themselves are now a winter project.  At least the lights appear to be noticeably brighter.

BTW the exact drawing is http://www.ferraricambi.com/part_diag.php?tav=308_GTB_118 which is from the 1976 308 GTB.  Makes sense.. mine is one of the first steel bodies.

Thanks for the help

Pat

A picture is worth a thousand words – or thereabouts.

Note that there’s a changeover in the design at about chassis number 27855 for GTB and 27757 for GTS. Just knowing this last point might help make sense of some of what’s going on.

OK, I’m stumped.  I’ve got a nice relay kit for my308’s headlamps.  Seems to work fine.

I also bought new Hella headlamps, but for the life of me can’t figure out how to replace them.  It looks there is a heavy bracket holding the headlamp that is attached to the whole assembly by four screws that are blocked by the fender, which makes me think I have to remove the two pivot bolts for the headlamp assembly.  Looks like I have to remove the fender to get to those bolts loose.

There are also three bolts on the back of the headlamp assembly.  I’m going to try loosening those to see if that releases the lamp.

Any help would be appreciated.
