They are more interested in anything that can transmit than just receive.  So your doodlebug should be just fine. I have a base for my Garmin that is made of rubber and some type of metal with a grippy surface underside. This will cause a what the heck is that from TSA. You can always tell when the belt stops and they just stare at the object, never a good sign. 

Just finished the book The Limit a story of the 1961 GP season. If you love Ferrari this is a must read and quite sad. It was written by Michael Cannell.
