(Especially if you like Peking Duck, ignore Dennis on this one, unless perhaps he can convincingly suggest an alternative in the area.  You might also try ordering their garlic sprouts.  I can also personally vouch for the other dishes Charles recommended.  OTOH, if you're ever in, say, Flushing, with Dennis, he won't steer you wrong.)

Well George pretty well summarized all the important stuff, so I will just throw in my suggestion for one evening meal:

Thanks to BigHead's herculean effort to educate me on authentic Chinese food, I can't honestly say it's the best Chinese food ever, but it is still one of my favorite restaurants of all time and an extremely popular spot with DC glitterati - one of President Bush's favorite places and the walls are literally wallpapered with photos of a Who's Who of DC eating there. Not at all unusual to see a little section closed off and Secret Service milling around.

 

The food is fantastic, even if Dennis would roll his eyes at calling it Chinese. Strongly recommend the Peking Duck (carved tableside), the Peking Gourmet Beef, and the Schezuan Beef Proper. Even if I'm just passing through DC I figure out a way to stop there for takeout and then gorge myself on the remaining drive. I should end up on some reality show for spending $120 on take-out just for myself, but I can't pass up any of my favorites.

 

Usually crowded, so reservations strongly recommended. Also helps to have a GPS as the outside is a totally non-descript entrance in a crappy little strip mall, belying the wonder inside.

 

Have a great trip! If I end up going to the Aston Club track event in late June I might even be able to see you on the way home in DC.

 

Are you doing Montreal too or does DC supplant that?

So, speaking of DC, my wife and I will be in DC from June 23^rd thru July 5^th.  So, a List gathering during that time would be sweet. 

 

But my more immediate question is, what things are “must do” while in DC?  I haven’t been to DC since I was a kid and my wife has never been.  So, any and all suggestions are appreciated!  Basically we will be spending 2 weeks there.
