Hello
I wasn't there but smog is a daily occurence
in most Chinese cities. I have been through Shanghai
by train and overflown it but have no real ground
time there. Eric could better advise you.
In the NE where I have my home, you can go
to the Taoist Temple on PingDingShan (mountain)
and look down on the city of Benxi, Liaoning.
In the afternoon you see a blue grey cloud but
nothing else! At one time Benxi was known as the
major city you could not see from space! Underneath
the cloud it doesn't seem that bad, but soot settles everywhere there is outside exposure.
The air in Hong Kong is so bad except on
the Peak or areas exposed to the South China Sea
that children are suffering retardation. A doctor
told me 20% of the adult population is being
treated for respiratory problems. But the Dim Sum
or Yum Cha is good! Can't win them all I guess?
       Regards
       Dale

Was the haze that hung over the Chinese GP smog and is that typical for Shanghai?
