Re: Insurance question - USAA

I always have and continue to have great service with USAA. Just in the last month unfortunately I've had three comprehensive claims. Two were from the same vandalism episode where my 78 Mercedes and 57 Chevy were spray painted. Last week a big dead branch landed on the hood of my 91 Bentley. In all three cases an adjuster came by, did an appraisal, dropped off their results, and the $$ shows up in my bank account. I take the car to the body shop and if the cost exceeds the estimate then USAA pays the shop directly. If the repair costs less then I keep the overage.

Never had a rate increase, but then our only claims have been comprehensive.

For a collector car, unless you're using it as regular transportation, I strongly recommend Hagerty (although don't have experience with the others). I have my '39 Rolls insured with an agreed value of $80k and I've had two claims that were the fault of me for one and my wife for the other. Those two claims cost Hagerty in excess of $40k and I still pay only about $700/year for their coverage.

That must explain why they're advertising hot and heavy on TV now, whereas in the not so distant past, they didn't.
