Re: Flip flappin Head Lamps

Mine exhibited slightly different symptoms:

One light would keep going up, down, up, down,
rinse, repeat.  Even turning off the headlight
switch didn't stop it.

Diagnosis:  I swapped the Left and Right relays.
The problem transferred itself to the other headlight.

Permanent cure (in my case, which may not be the
same as yours.....):  Order a new relay.

Temp fix:  I took apart the relay, and twiddled (technical
term) with the contacts.  This was because I had to
wait a few days for the new relay.

Where she is now:  The doctored relay kept working,
so I threw the new one in the glove box when it arrived.
It's still there some 6 years later.

Hans.

Ahhhh – the “dreaded flappy blinky headlight syndrome.”  ONLY happens at social gatherings or at the end of a drive at a store or a park, in front of tons of civilians looking at THE FERRARI – then flap flip blink and ^#&%^$%$?.

Yesh – our car has been inflicted and no long time cure afforded – except, don’t pull the lights on.

Temp fix?  At the time the curse is started, from the fuse relay panel, is heard a distinct click click click keeping time with the flippin and flappin’.  The temp fix used was a copied from my fathers fix he exacted on me when I was 10 or so while doing a very stupid thing or things – a whack on the cabaza or in our flp flappin’ case, the offending clicking relay.  Viola.  And like when I was 10, that whack stopped the stupid action.

I’ll have to get into it one of these days.  But a word of caution – those head lamp motors have a way of setting off just when your fingers are in a vulnerable spot.  Most unforgiving too.

Cheers to you too Grahame and when you find the solution – please share.  It took nearly two weeks for my index finger to heal.

Onward

DOUG
