Stepped nose was/is done to lower the nose for ( team were raising the nose to get aero dynamics to work, resulting if they T-boned anther car it (the nose) woud spear the other driver.

The mast is for Raido Control, Massa was in the car Alonso was driving!

Hard to tell from that low angle photo, but so far this year's car is better looking - no ugly stepped nose (I never did understand why so many of last year's car had that....), and respectable sized tires. Oh, and that Massa set fast time doesn't hurt, either! But what is that tall probe sticking out of the top of the car? Anyone?
