Yesterday was rough.Â
Had to say goodbye to Natasha (1996-2013) - best dog
I'll ever have. Been through it three times before
and it doesn't get any easier.
I replaced the crown gear carrier as a pm measure when
repairing a (my)self inflicted wound to the first gear
pair. That was about three years ago and the TR had
about 32K miles then. It was running Pilot Sport 295
18's in the rear and the combination of wide sticky
rubber and a damp washboard on ramp conspired against
it. Now running PS2's and being very careful to avoid
similar situations.Â
I'm in the process of buying a place in SW FL so
you'll have your choice of Cape Cod or FL. We haven't
been back to the Cape since last year when we hosted a
Thanksgiving feast there about 200 yds. from where the
Pilgrims first set foot in 1620.Â
You must be getting close to the point when the
airlines and the FAA conspire retirement against those
of a certain age. I hear St. Barts is a very very
nice spot.
Martin hope you are
doing well
This is not aimed at you
in the least and you know that
This is for the rest of
the list
How many miles did your
car have on it when it went south?
Clyde
PS. I know you are on
the CAPE must visit some time

I have 97K plus miles on
my 512 TR
With no issues in the
gear box what so ever
Every failure that I
have known about comes from the idiot driver
thinking he is in a 5.0 Mustang coming off of stop
light drag racing!
You must remember the
input shaft on this car is around 2â max and the
tires are huge so something has to give
Everyone who has owned a
TR that I have known bought it used
And when they did the
jerk before them did not know how to drive the car
Hence you see Clutch
replaced at so and so miles
Well what do you think
was attached to the damn clutch?
Ask Phil who is on the
list when the series 1 TR came out people sued
dealerships to get them (he worked for a major
dealer in the Philly area)
Baseball players got
them for signing bonuses, the idiot with the bad
hair Trump had one, what does that tell you!
The car at its peak was
bringing Â$250K stupid money
So who do you think
drove those cars ?
So you buy used TR with
low miles that has a transaxle that you canât see
into but he itâs got a new clutch what could go
wrong!
Every f*cking thing!
Oh and it was during the
go go late 80âs after the old man died when 308âs
were being sold by Brian for $80K (he told them it
would never go down in price)
Here is the cliff notes
on the TR and you take this from someone who has
done a couple of transaxles for friends
If you buy a car that
has a clutch replaced or second gear and or second
gear syncros replaced take a minimum $25k off the
price
If you donât you will be
adding that to the price later on just like a
lister did a while back
Or you can save yourself
a bundle and call ME !
Gotta go the beach is
calling

If you look on
Ferrarichat you'll find multiple crown gear carrier
(transaxle) failures. I replaced mine with a
one-piece unit from Newman a few years back. (Peace
of mind.)

and the brakes weren't so great.
I've heard about the transaxle but the 5
TR owners I know personally have never had
any issues after a decade or more of
driving.
20k range was a prediction from 10 yrs
ago..still staying strong in the $50k
range for a decent one.
512BBi was ok...carbed versions much
better.
All great cars...splitting hairs here.
BTW, I believe
the automatic belts was a 512 TR thing
only.....not sure if all years.Â
