Martin hope you are doing well
This is not aimed at you in the least and you know that
This is for the rest of the list
How many miles did your car have on it when it went south?
PS. I know you are on the CAPE must visit some time
__________________________________________________________________________
I have 97K plus miles on my 512 TR
With no issues in the gear box what so ever
Every failure that I have known about comes from the idiot driver thinking he is in a 5.0 Mustang coming off of stop light drag racing!
You must remember the input shaft on this car is around 2â max and the tires are huge so something has to give
Everyone who has owned a TR that I have known bought it used
And when they did the jerk before them did not know how to drive the car
Hence you see Clutch replaced at so and so miles
Well what do you think was attached to the damn clutch?
Ask Phil who is on the list when the series 1 TR came out people sued dealerships to get them (he worked for a major dealer in the Philly area)
Baseball players got them for signing bonuses, the idiot with the bad hair Trump had one, what does that tell you!
The car at its peak was bringing $250K stupid money
So who do you think drove those cars ?
So you buy used TR with low miles that has a transaxle that you canât see into but he itâs got a new clutch what could go wrong!
Oh and it was during the go go late 80âs after the old man died when 308âs were being sold by Brian for $80K (he told them it would never go down in price)
Here is the cliff notes on the TR and you take this from someone who has done a couple of transaxles for friends
If you buy a car that has a clutch replaced or second gear and or second gear syncros replaced take a minimum $25k off the price
If you donât you will be adding that to the price later on just like a lister did a while back
Or you can save yourself a bundle and call ME !
Gotta go the beach is calling

If you look on Ferrarichat you'll find multiple crown gear carrier (transaxle) failures. I replaced mine with a one-piece unit from Newman a few years back. (Peace of mind.)

Maintenance and the brakes weren't so great.
I've heard about the transaxle but the 5 TR owners I know personally have never had any issues after a decade or more of driving.
20k range was a prediction from 10 yrs ago..still staying strong in the $50k range for a decent one.
512BBi was ok...carbed versions much better.
All great cars...splitting hairs here.
BTW, I believe the automatic belts was a 512 TR thing only.....not sure if all years.
