Hey Clyde â next time, donât sugar it â GEEsus, tell it like it is. Ah ah ah
DOUGâs maxim â double your budget to buy the car.
Half of your budget is for the car â the other half is deferred maintanence and what not.
Even late model 550âs and 575âs which are getting into the GREAT buy areas have, um, a few peccadilloes.
Unglued dash
Curbed wheel
Mashed front end (those are long nose cars, dude)
Engine mounts that collapsed and the engine is now on the frame (550)
Windows that donât go up and down
Headers (only see one) that burn thru.
All sorts of mass electrical problems (early 550âs)
And last â AAA Premier Card with plenty of free mileage tows.
But in the meantime â youâll have a fine car.
Light metallic blue with tobacco interior. Oh yeah.
DOUG

No and I am going to tell you the truth
Maintenance cost are everything !
Because none of these guys are going to chip in when your early 12 cylinder goes south on you
Because if the shit breaks hard (like a transmission gear that no one on earth has ) you will need to get one made
Or buy a CNC machine and learn how to use it!
It's equivalent to owning a WW2 fighter plane
They are nice to look at but the maintenance cost are astronomical ! Versus the the fun factor
So unless you just want bragging rights of owning an old Ferrari that might go south on you at any moment
Suck it up and buy a late model 12 cylinder
Save some serious cash and future headaches and drive the fucking paint off it!
Driving the paint off his 512 TR with 97K plus miles on it!

Just kidding Rob â if I had 10% of your drive - - - why my car would be the correct color and on the road. Go fer it.
My advice Rob is: GO FOR IT!
Get the car for which you lust. Don't let maintenance costs scare you off. You do a lot of your work AND you aren't shopping for an investment. You're acquiring a dream.
That will be two cents, please.
