'04 is a pretty good year for the turbo and the cabs are popular (basically unimproved for the next so many years and the turbo S is a 20% premium) so if it's in very good condition, silver/black should sell around $45K privately. Wholesale or trade-in would be abysmal. As ever, a detailed car with nothing to spend and a well-organized, complete service history will sell quickly. If the buyer has to look at $800 just for brake pads, $1500 for tires, $1000+ for a 50K mile service, even dropping to $40K won't bring a sale. I'd suggest advertising at rennlist, pca.org, autotrader, 6speedonline, with a lot of detailed photos on a photo sharing site like picasa so you don't have to pay ebay for photo listings. Look at current Porsche marketing photos to get the angles and perspectives that flatter the 996 Turbo. Include the VIN, pay for the carfax, get a dealer inspection to remove any doubt of "stories." It can also be worthwhile asking the used car manager at the local Porsche dealer to inspect the car, give it their two cents' on valuation, they'll print out any recent auctions, and maybe you can talk them into conveying the sale for a $1000 and they get to sell financing to the buyer. Unless they have a very similar car on the lot, if you're bringing the deal to them and all they have to do is work the finance, they're usually happy to generate the business and have the opportunity to acquire the buyer as a customer to their service center. The most common thing I see in '04 and '05 GT3's is the seller not "seeing" the condition of the car. Scruffy floor mats. A dent here, a stone chip there and some curb rash or a grooved, blued brake rotor. It's well worth budgeting on $2K+ to make the car "nothing to spend" and even pay the registration out another year if it's in the last few months (it's pro-rata refunded if the buyer goes out of state, etc.) If the buyer wants that car in that color, you want to be sure you give them no reason to pass on your car. Otherwise, be prepared to meet a lot of "let's talk about cars and you teach me about 911's" pen pals. : )
