I have a Volvo SUV, well, a 911 with electric steering -- same thing.  : )  I bought it sight unseen before they were in the USA and enjoyed its qualities, but found I never got over the dead steering and the general feel of the car, the look of it, just not me.  I much prefer its predecessor, the so-called 997.2 with PDK in a Carrera 4S Cabriolet.  That's a great car and I could see myself getting again, but as a rule, I avoid getting the same car twice, as a "life's too short" idea.

My "drive fast" days on the road are over, but my drive insanely days are enjoyed at the local tracks in a bespoke two seater 911.  That much, I wear on my sleeve.  Maybe one day I "graduate" to a 430 Scuderia.

Hopefully that helps position the 612 as more of the "if you have to drive a boring drive, make it as much of a special occasion as humanly possible" -- I think that's one aspect of motoring where Ferrari excels and Porsche has lost the plot.

I won't argue this is not a silly proposition.  Arguably it's less silly than the FF today or the 612 in its day.  I'd even be tempted to get the manual gearbox, but the one friend who has driven the Scaglietti in F1 and manual gearbox formats (a Ferrari factory trained tech now retired) assures me the joy of the car is found at wide open throttle to the red line with the gearbox delivering the up-shifts.  I can see the sense in a big GT being less about double-de-clutching and heel-toe healing of the soul, more about the whole car as a special place to be.  Hard to say.  I like shifting and the skill in driving "perfectly" with control over the car and the satisfaction of a well executed series of downshifts or just the control of easing out the clutch to the engagement point then letting the idle control of the engine bring forward motion with sublime torque bringing the car up to pace.  Lots of fun to be had there, I think.

BTW if you can afford a 612 you can get both a great ferrari and a Volvo SUV!
