Michael,
I put non-ABS 328 wheels on my 308GTB, not to avoid metric wheels but rather, to support modern rubber. They were exchanges at the dealer when some 328 owner went with something else. The usual metric swap is to QV wheels in standard size but these 328 wheels were cheap. Be advised, the 328 hubs are different so the wheels or 308 grease caps have to be mildly modified. Not so with QV wheels.
When I owned Matt's-Rick's-Dave's-Rick's-Ed's '83 Mondial QV, I bought a set of new wheels from Superformance. They replaced the 390s that were on the car. Shipping from England was not as bad as I expected AND the cost of new wheels + shipping + normal tires was LESS than a set of four crappy old 390s that may have been on the shelf for years. Just FYI.

PS: My TR now has standard size wheels now too.
