Had better than average knowledge of systems to disable ACARS
Knows flight plans and radar coverage areas
US military knows where plane they cant comment it would reveal sensor capability accuracy
Read the book Blind Mans Bluff it mentions the sub that found the FDR on the Air France crash off the coast of Brazil
This sub was used to pick up missile parts from soviet missile test in the Pacific 
The rest you can figure out for yourself unless you are very dense! (Sorry but it is what it is)

Glad to see cLyDe's thoughts echo mine.  Although I could substitute a handful of similar destinations for Iran.   If that's the case... The big surprise is no one opening their mouth and bragging about it. Bigger surprise is no one claiming it.
