Herbie – ah ah ah

 

Picture this – mid-sixties VW race AT Riverside International Raceway (just WHERE Herbie was racing) with some rather notable drivers.  Who?  Ohhhh, the likes of Dan Gurney, AJ Foyt et al.  thing I recall about the race is Gurney took off, AJ Foyt comes up behind him and starts pushing him!!  Ayep – all around the track and they get a sizeable lead on the rest of the gang.  Just before the checkered flag – oh nooooo – AJ shoots into the pits – a problem !!  oh nooooo.  Yeah, ‘oh no’ my foot.  AJ’s car was rather, in the words of the 50’s hot rodders, “hotted up.”  My my.  I am shocked and appalled.

Hello Hans,
    Hey, don't knock Herbie -- a genuine world class race car!  ;-) Luckily little things like rules and such were minor details Herbie didn't have to be concerned with.   I'm pretty sure it could fly as well - talk about special!  I think I read somewhere they used 5 or 6 modified VWs for the movie - some with Porsche engines.
