Wow, Ric Rainbolt, huh? Has anyone talked to him recently? I remember stopping by his place a few years back and being in awe of all the projects he had going on.  Wonder how he's doing...?

But seriously, there are two notable fire hazards associated with carburetted cars.

1. Webers spit charge from their venturis. Running without a flame retarding air cleaner is a recipe for disaster. 

2. Old prone-to-split fuel hoses often feed carburetors. That is a problem shared with early FI cars too. Add in the higher pressure used in FI cars and the threat is magnified.

So to minimize fire extinguisher use, never run a Weber-fed engine without a proper air cleaner and, replace all older fuel hoses with new pressure rated and alcohol safe hose as part of the preventative maintenance regime.
