No doubt for a street car Clyde – but it was a copy of a multi multi winning Lemans and just about every track in the world 935 & 936 that was built to the rule book with a top speed exceeding 220 mph from a 2.8 liter engine.  

 

A kinda “cheata” car.**  And now points for your team -  it was UGH-LY.  The most successful of these had an internal and eventually external name - - - Moby Dick.

 

That car dominated sports car racing from 1976 thru ’78.  So of course every hot rodder just HAD to have a Lemans winner to drive to the store – of course.  There were several ways a buyer could get the street model: 1) Make it themselves using 928 headlamp assemblies; 2) have the Porsche factory do it in their ‘Dream Werks” shop; or, 3) have body shop do it.  The only one that looked well done all the time (such as it was) were the ones done by the factory.

**Note – the base vehicle had to still reside within the “shell” of all the aero dynamic add on’s.  If you had a chance to look down at the rear window, which still had to be there, the plastic screen covering the real window was termed “a rear wing extension.”  That gave a much smoother flow off the roof line to the rear wing.
