It's all about television and the million$ it brings. Things will
only get worse as the technological challenge is diluted. Nascar? I
hope it doesn't get that bad, but it is probably very close already with
a European twist to it. I've seen Nascars up close but the last time I
was close to F1 was at the Detroit GP in 1984. At that time they were
much more interesting and exciting to watch and study than they are
today, IMO. The Nascars I've been close to (a company function had one
brought in) was a strange experience - the body was super thin and was
only there to give credibility that they had something to do with a real
Chevrolet or Ford which was only true of the engines. But I think
your analogy to Nascar is very valid - think back to the roots if Nascar
and you'll find the liquor runners of NC, Ga, SC, Va, etc. But of
course they were street cars modified - now they've gone to the extreme
until without the body they would not have their original identity
anymore. F1 is a different animal because they were always designed
as race cars 1st with no street ability.
But ya'll know all that...I'd like to see less restrictions rather than more (like many people I suspect) but it'll only get worse i fear.

FRICkin' A you're right, Rick! F1 is becoming like Nascar, where rule changes and generous full course yellows are used to keep the pack close to the front runners. My opinion is that this is yet another dumbing-down of the formula, because Mercedes got FRIC right!
