I don't even know how the 308 tach gets its signal, but I'm going to guess it is some sort of magnetic pickup. Similarly, the ignition system uses three magnetic pickups. I once had a problem that I traced to one of those magnetic pickups, and when the car was cold it would work fine, but as it warmed up eventually the car would die. I figured it out by measuring the resistance across that pickup, and as the engine compartment warmed up, the resistance continued to grow and grow and grow until the resistance across it was too high and it shut the ignition system off. The other two pickups on the other hand remained fairly constant with resistance, so this is how I figured it out.
Long and short, if you figure out where that sensor is, perhaps you can measure resistance across it and see if it grows as it warms up.
But what do I know? I don't even know where the sensor is and how it works! :-)
Good luck,

Hi all.......My tach stops working after the car warms up...............i recall this has happened to others, but I cant seem to find any thread discussions anywhere. Was it a sensor problem?
