Growing up in Kentucky where immigrants from Scotland and England settled, the place names and food are classically British.

I grew up in the country, outside of Maysville (originally named Limestone for the quarries of good Ordovician building stone). Within a small radius of Maysville are the towns of Aberdeen, Ripley, Manchester and Glasgow, just to name a few.

We had potatoes with EVERY meal as they were the starch that stretched the more costly beef and pork. Roast beef, potatoes and carrots served with Yorkshire pudding each Sunday. I loved every morsel of it - still do!

Today I still find simple British food the ultimate comfort food. That's not to say that I don't enjoy other food. Here's my short list:

Full Englush Breakfast - Outstanding, and Bacon Toasties at the track at 6am are fantastic.

French - Sandwiches on baguettes are great. The rest, just so-so.

Spanish - Love a good paella.

Mexican - Tamales are pretty good. Don't care for much else.

Vietnamese - Pho and bun are great, especially when a lighter meal is desired.

Chinese - Don't care for Chinese food but all we get is American Chinese.

Thai - Good if a little too sweet.

Japanese / sushi - Excellent.

Italian - I don't like Italian food. I'm probably the only human on this and three nearby planets, that doesn't.

Greek - Okay, if seafood

Mediterranean (in general) - Some bits very good, others blah.

Portuguese - Good seafood, especially fresh grilled octopus.

German - Good but not all of it agrees with me, especially the fried bits. Do love cabbage.

Korean - Really like kimchi.

But my favorite is a good roast, potatoes and carrots augmented by a nice Yorkshire pudding and brown gravy. Yum yum.

And with that I suppose I like terrible food. :-P
