From today’s AutoExtremist.com: Bloomberg is now reporting that Montezemolo, who has led Ferrari for more than 20 years, may in fact be out. Marchionne wants to get his hands on Ferrari, which is 90 percent-owned by Fiat, so he can expand production and make more money. Montezemolo, who took charge of Ferrari in 1991, wants to maintain Ferrari's autonomy and limit sales to about 7,000 cars a year to preserve the brand's exclusivity. Montezemolo's disdain for Marchionne has now come to the surface. "Ferrari is now American," which represents "the end of an era," Montezemolo told close associates, Il Corriere della Sera reported today. So the mercenary deal maker, who has no respect for the integrity of the product or the brand exclusivity of Ferrari, wants to expand production to make more money so he'll look like even more of a genius, at least in his own mind. In other words, Marchionne is fulfilling his mission as the consummate stronzo. They had the F1 world by the tail... then slowly but surely the nationalistic pride took over and gone were the OLD German Driver, the French director and the Brit engineers all in favor of folks who are native sons... and lets face it, Stepney was wrong for what he did but he too was overlooked when his time had come in favor of a native son. So they have done this to themselves... Sadly. Their time will come again but it will take someone without blinders who will just hire the best, regardless of their country of origin. Unfortunately they have hung substandard cars on Alonso and wasted some of his best years. I'll venture to say that without Alonso driving the car well beyond it's limits, they wouldn't have the little success they have had. No doubt they have made him wealthy but can you image what his stats would look like had he been behind the wheel of the RB6-9?? Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. Mismanagement of Schumacher. Running off all of the foreign talent because of Stephney-gate. Having Glickenhaus get 10000x the attention with P4/5, P4/5C. Bentley has become a real competitor for the higher end cars. Not winning in 6 years with basically an unlimited budget, free reign, any drivers you want and yet they couldn’t close the deal. No more scapegoats, time for new blood. The brand value only works if you’re winning...
Not sure if Luca leaving is good or bad. Yes, it's easy to assume it is bad but then again, it was Luca that cranked up production which contributed to the less interesting cars we have now. I personally love the antiquated, old school, vintage, classic, fire prone, noisy, raw dinosaurs...like Clyde's 512TR.
