When the TR, 308 QV, 328, 348, 355, 512 BB were being built they weren't on the F1 podium very often either. Design is now dictated by wind tunnels,software and hundreds of safety regulations but mechanically, the newer cars are amazing. The fact that market research dictates that they do not build a manual transmission any more pretty much sums up the current demographic of new car purchasers.
