Here is what appears to be the "Australian" video but more complete. I hate online literal translations so perhaps one of our Italian friends can let us know more precisely what the Video description really says.
Couple of thoughts:
The tractor was not doing much "Porpoising" so there was still significant weight on the rear wheels even though Sutil's car was on the hook. So the physics of lifting and spinning the tractor like that indicates one heck of an impact.
About 33 second mark of the video and beyond. Sutil's car is on the hook and right below the tower. Why the hell is the marshal waving a GREEN flag??? I keep hearing about a double yellow. That flag is green... I may be aging and have other issue but color blindness isn't one of them.
Its a real shame. Had Bianchi spun a few seconds earlier he would probably have missed the tractor. On the other hand he may have killed a track worker or two. OR, had he spun a few seconds later we might be mourning his demise had he T-boned the tractor.
Moving on:
So for me, the recent calls for closed cockpits is a bit of a nanny state, knee jerk reaction. I don't like it. And don't really see how much good it would have done this time.
Even if there were yellow flags elsewhere, the recent statements by Perez show that most of the drivers don't lift much at a yellow. But I don't want to see a safety car for every accident/retirement either. So what about a mandatory speed limit like the pit lane limit during a yellow? Only during a full course yellow? Only on a double yellow?? Your
thoughts.
I'm sure if there is a dumbest way to handle this, Charlie Whiting and the FIA will choose it.
