Come on! Clyde’s been doing it for years…it’s nice to see him having to take it for once. Can you imagine what he’d be saying if I reported that I had to give the 308 an engine rebuild? lol Talking about cheap tyres and cutting corners, I wonder if Clyde was using cheap oil from Walmart which caused his engine to prematurely wear and require replacement? Clyde? Those big 12s barely tick over and should last forever! Let's drop this or take it private. Merry Christmas gents. Well clyde….i’m sorry I’ve hit a raw nerve. Truth hurts, hey? Pete is just a like a rock in your shoe A pain that will eventually go away when you take your shoe off! I forgot the advice of a a good friend And Pete for the record I have flown faster than you have heard someone call you stupid ! In other words faster than the speed of sound ! With regards to the tire issue Smart people know where to spend their hard earned cash In Victory you deserve Champagne In Defeat You Need It! If you obey all the rules I’m with you Clyde – We have a set of PEP Boys Cornell’s 760 x 14’s on our 308. Buy 3 get one free. I used to run Inglewood Tire midget front and rear tires but no one liked the checkered tread pattern. Thru up too much mud. Alas DOUG
If in fact I would have taken short cuts The car wouldn't have lasted as long as it has But alas you are a True Poser You lack the skill set that I have in maintaining cars and for that matter most things In Victory you deserve Champagne In Defeat You Need It! If you obey all the rules Lol @ no such thing as matching numbers. If that car wasn’t worthless already, you’d know what a difference it makes! If you’re too cheap to buy good tyres, I can’t imagine the shortcuts you’ve taken with everything else on that car. Time to up the insurance and set the thing on fire…do yourself a favour. No such thing as matching numbers on Modern day Ferraris As for tires since I drive I buy whatever is on sale There is not 10' of difference between High dollar synthetic rubber and bargain stuff In Victory you deserve Champagne In Defeat You Need It! If you obey all the rules Non-matching motor and Costco tires? Even the ghetto wouldn't let that car in! I think you should drive it one more time….to the ghetto and leave the keys in it. It's was a complete engine swap A/c compressor and alternator Just as the picture shows Yea over 100 k on a water pump But I think it's because I drive the car In Victory you deserve Champagne In Defeat You Need It! If you obey all the rules Clyde, great project and love the pics. I wish I had the facilities and time to do these types of projects but do not currently. 100k on a water pump on a vintage classic like the 512TR is pretty damn good...no doubt. However, aren't you swapping an entire engine out at 100k? It would be great if the water pump engineer got to design the rest of the motor! PS-Pls keep the pics and updates coming While I was doing the work one of the other Techs asked me about the water pump and he was there when I thought I had a leak in my new engine after I had installed it He was shocked when I told him that the original engine had never had a water pump and it had over 100k miles on it And I fact I can't remember changing a pump on any of my cars It seems that the technology has really helped in that arena On another note I am hoping to tear down that old engine in the future to check it for wear Currently the only weak spot on my car is the transaxle assembly which when I did the last major service had very little metal on the magnetic plug The modern day lubricants are just amazing when it comes to this Nothing like the old days of mineral based lubricants With regards to my oh my god water pump leak, the pump has a carbon seal and since this was a 1993 that had not been driven much the seal was shrunken and needed to be heated up by the water and engine block assembly to seal properly Another reason to drive you car instead of wax it! Gotta go fly my last trip of the year In Victory you deserve Champagne In Defeat You Need It!
