Yes, MCV, Medical College of Va in Richmond. He's been there since admitted Sunday morning. I got a message this morning from Lee that he is going to be discharged today -- so very good news!

George has been posting a little bit on Facebook so I suspect we'll hear from him soon. The message Dennis posted to the FList originally in this thread was a copy/paste of my wife's Facebook status. She was piecing things together from what she'd heard from Lee, and what I'd heard and conveyed to her.

My understanding of what happened is that Sunday morning they were up (but not in the garage or working on the car), heard a noise from the garage area, George ran down to investigate, ran back up for a fire extinguisher, then ran back down, then ran back up to tell Lee to get herself and the dogs out of the house. Meanwhile George worked to get the cars he had out of danger. The source of the fire almost certainly is the Spitfire, and at some point there was an explosion that one of the neighbors said sounded like AP Hill doing testing. George's friend Lee from VA Beach is a firefighter, and I don't know if he actually looked at the Spitfire after the fire was over, but he seemed to think that at some point the Spitfire's fuel tank seam failed, and George told me Monday that he had just filled the Spitfire up, so.....

So a car explosion may not be the cause of the fire initially, but I'm sure it helped exacerbate the situation.

We had a Spitfire many years ago - it was a '63 and req'd a lot of maintenance.  But it was our 1st sports car and we drove it everywhere with the top down. 

A friend had a similar even as George - he was working on his 944 and had pushed a phillips head screw driver in a fuel line.  At some point (3am) the screwdriver either slipped or leaked and the pilot light for the Hot Water heater lit the fumes.   The "Boom" awakened them and they escaped unhurt.

Very sorry to hear about Georges injuries - we will pray for him & his wfe....

George posted two days ago that his Triumph Spitfire broke down and left him on the side of the road, needed a flatbed home.  Maybe this was the cause?
