FG,
Agree, about the only motorsports I watch these days is MotoGP and WRC.
MotoGP isn't just follow the leader, they actually race each other, where else can you see multiple lead changes in a single lap and sometimes 3 to 5 in the last lap. Edge of the seat watching, even Rossi's bone headed mistake that cost him the championship.
F1 & IRL are like the old Barber Saab series, virtual spec classes. Only thing more boring to watch is the Formula Electric, gone are the innovative days of H-16 engines and 6 wheeled cars.
Cheers,
Les T.

I personally have a hard time keeping up/being that interested in F1.
I like motorsport, but feel this is one area where the watching is far less fun than the doing......a bigger contrast than any of the major sports, even if most of us have never raced in our life.
F1 is like european NASCAR in terms of the politics and big names.......WRC, Australian Supercars, MotoGp, SuperBikes, and maybe even IRL are more pure a sport but lack the star power perhaps.

I agree with everything posted. Let's step back a bit and ask what sport really is; Its a substitute for the battle for survival. We no longer have to fight to eat and breed, so we watch others pretend to do so! As retired clYde says, we already have lots of organized sport for that. I mean, NASCAR is just the motorsport version of WWF. And American football is just the big males clashing horns in the meadow for breeding rights over the cheerleaders. What do we need F1 for? After all, F1 is about strategy and cunning, granted using sharp sticks, but not the evolution satisfying brutal battles that we already have.
I have only been to one race at COTA, but the stands were easily half filled with Mexicans, not Americans. Contrast that with the packed multi-million dollar football stadiums at all of the Texas HIGH SCHOOLS, each Friday night!
The US doesn't need Formula 1 and Formula 1 doesn't need the US. And one might even argue that today, no one actually 'needs' Formula 1 in its diluted, politically corect form.
Two cents please.
