cLyDe, I agree with you on everything, but I suspect the lack of Ferraris seen in Paris has more to do with government chasing after the rich for avoiding paying their taxes. I'm not sure if it was urban fable, or true, but a tactic set up in Italy was a road block on a road to a resort where the Guardia di Finanzia (sp?) nailed Ferrari and other exotic owners for tax evasion (when checked out, most of the owners had filed taxes stating false, ridiculously low income).

One time when crossing the border into Washington state with my 308, the border guard asked me what I did for a living; "I'm a welder and fabricator" said I. "Nice car" was his reply. He let me in after a few more questions, but I guess he was curious to know how a young-ish looking guy could be driving a Ferrari. I guess he didn't realize a simple welder COULD afford a 308 GT4 &#X1f609

The F-40 has seen its day
Just like I said years ago about this car and the Daytona as well
The turbos were shit and everyone who has owned one except the insanely rich dump
This car
It's the the space shuttle challenger on 4 wheels, it's looking for a place to blow up!
The fit and finish is horrible, plastic Windows !
Anyway to each there own I say
The Ferrari panache is going away, slowly but it's going
The new money crowd doesn't want to buy a starter Ferrari at $275k plus
Sure there will always be the newly minted millionaire and rock star,
but when I go to the largest
Ferrari dealer on the east coast FOA,  and see the showroom floor stacked with used cars
That's speaks volumes as far as I am concerned
And like me or not I have been spot on with the market
The boom time just after the old man died was it, couple that with the Japanese buying all
The old shit P3,P4 and the like and there you have it
Yea you will always have the one off auction hype but that's not the market
Menlo Park in California has the highest per capita income in the nation
You don't see Ferraris in the garage there
Gen Xers don't see the "all that ness " in owning a Ferrari
Even in Paris where there has always been money
At the corner of St.Germain and cafe du flour just up the street from my apartment
There on a Friday night there would always be a red horse
Was there last just after Christmas for the last 2 New Year's Eve's
No Ferraris to be seen anywhere !

That's it for me guys
Like I have always said buy it because you like it and drive the paint off it!

Happy Easter

I’d be very interested in a 250 GTE at $40k if history rhymes, I’m sure my wife would like me to get an F40 if they hit $325k again.

My PO was offered $110k for 1983 400i 5 speed in 1990 and I paid $28k in 1998.

Daytona coupes got up to low 500's and got down to very low 100 territory.

Going from memory, my 365 was advertised in 1990 for $106k in Hemmings, I bought it in 1997 for $24k.

Pretty close (95% confidence interval) to John’s numbers.

This peak is about 2-3X the late 80's peak and the lows after that got to probably down to 20% of peak on a very rough recollection.
