Thanks for the update cLyDe. I agree, the stock petcock valve is rather cheap, but they use what is commercially available. I replaced the block drain valve with a brake-bleeder type and it's much easier to use and makes no mess at all (I did the same with the top, thermostat housing bleeder as well. Removed the crappy screw and replaced it with a brake-bleeder type).
I forget where I read it, but if I remember correctly, there isn't just a surge of the rated current that starts flowing through a circuit when it's closed, but there's a considerable spike at first. Only momentarily, but that'll do it. I know in respect to solenoid coils, there'll sometimes be diodes bridging the contacts to prevent a "flyback" effect (http://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/110574/how-to-choose-a-flyback-diode-for-a-relay).

Sent: November 22, 2016 9:39 AM To: PeterGT4 Cc: The FerrariList Subject: [Ferrari] 512 radiators final report Ok guys I don’t know if I sent a report out on the 512 replacement radiators but here it is The all-aluminum radiators are a vast improvement from the stock units in every sense of the word They even have a petcock for draining, instead of that terrible screw with the shitty rubber seal that leaks They are lighter and cool down substantially faster than the stock units. The cooling fans stay on 60 seconds at most to cool down the car, that never happen with the stock units And are cheaper than the OEM units I found the customer service to be good on the units My car was basically was the test dummy on these units for fit on a 512 TR
Also while I am at it I would highly recommend you install the relays to the 2 cooling fans and the a/c compressor fans to the condenser as well Failure to do so will just invite the inevitable failure of your fuse box or maybe worse Remember this is a 25 amp draw on start up thru a wire that wasn’t made to handle it ( can you say space shuttle challenger?) If you have a fan that runs to cool your car you need to get it done PERIOD! ( 355/360 etc. cars too Leroy you are not exempt, this is just not a 512 TR issue ) I am willing to bet you already experienced some arcing in your pin connector already on the fan wire side of the fuse box ( can you say cockpit fire?) So take heed
Have a great thanksgiving
