I was referring to the GTO at Talacrest, 3387GT.

As far as I understand Preston has no need or desire to sell.

If John Collins can close the deal, I'd be interested in the age of the buyer.  I'm curious as to the shelf life of these deals as one generation passes on and if the Gen Xers see the same value in them.

I don't ascribe to the $100 mil valuation.  Guess we need to see how strong the sale of 3445 at Talcrest is to understand the $50+ mil threshold.  Yes 6885 would be a real trophy acquisition but debate if it would be any higher than a great provenance GTO.  Guess it would come down to if there are 2 or more billionaires with a burning desire to have it at all costs.

Thanks for the 411 on that car!  Special, yes. "$100MM", maybe not.

Folks,

Preston Henn's 275 6885 should never be confused with a mere mortal 275.  It is one of 3 or 4 (depends upon who is counting) of what could more accurately be described as a GTO development/continuation.  This was the most race worthy of the group.  GTO with a 250/275 LM motor, GTO chassis with IRS.  The body is more an interpretation of a 275 GTB that a GTB.  6885 got banned out of the European races after a while because the FIA figured out just how much of a cheater car it really was.  It then came to the US with Chinnetti.  David Williams did an entire book on this car.

I'd have to do some digging, but there used to be a 275 here in the DC area w/ race history.  Roll cage, Nardi steering wheel supposedly signed by someone significant (which, iirc, was part of its provenance documenting said history), etc.  Was eligible in the late '90's for the Ferrari Historic Challenge.  Now, it may have been a converted road car, vice full "C" spec - I'm really not sure.  Sadly, owner passed away and I have no idea where the car went after that....

FWIW.

According to the article it's the only one with race history.

Whaaaaaaaat????

When a 250 GTO tops out at, what (?), 50-60M, a 275 *can't* be worth "nearly $100 million".  Even if it is a "C".....  Can it???
