I suspect the cause is, most likely, related to the fact that this being a Euro car the owner did not replace the fuel bladders with the safer tanks that are in the US versions.
It literally felt sick to my stomach viewing the photos. Another piece of automotive art and history gone forever.
Also, if you use Google Chrome, your browser will automatically offer to translate Italian pages.

Can anyone read the Italian for cause of the fire? Guessing simple fuel leak that got WAY out of hand. That little fire extinguisher the guy was carrying in one photo would never have touched that blaze (speaking from experience....).
