308 door rust

My theory for the door rust issue probably can be attributed to not only the way the sheetmetal is folded over the door frame itself (thereby trapping water/moisture along a very thin cavity, beyond the drain holes), but that damn anti-rust “shutz” (sp?) coating they sprayed all over the inside of the door.

Over decades, the stuff dries out to a rock-hard layer that doesn’t quite stick to the surface as it once did, making it so easy for water to, again, accumulate underneath and slowly eat away at the metal.

Of course, shoddy, quick body shop repairs don’t make the situation any better and yes, I see rust bubbles on the bottoms of my doors!

I’m planning that when I restore my GT4, I’m going to have the shell galvanized. I and future owners won’t have to worry about rust ever again!

Peter
