I always replace coolant with what the system was designed for. Pick a reputable manufacturer and buy it pre-mixed so there isn’t any chance for miscalculations.

I would hesitate buying coolant from any company that doesn’t specialize in fluids and lubricants.

Clyde -

Was the reason you replaced your radiators external corrosion?

I have used prestone for years

Change it every 2 years

No problem

Don’t like the long life stuff

The TR runs hot .with small Raditor so from my point of view the coolant is working overtime

Can’t prove it

But works for me

Have never had a water pump issue

First engine had 97k on it no issues

Years ago I flushed and refilled my '87 TR's cooling system with a long life coolant.  After about a month I noticed that the waterpump that was replaced a couple of years before began to leak.  I don't know if it was caused by the coolant formula or just a coincidence.  You may remember seeing this info since I posted it to the list back then.

It's time to change the coolant and I'd like to switch to a modern long life coolant formula so I'll pose the question again.  Does anyone have experience running long life coolant like the pink or orange stuff in a Ferrari?

Based on Clyde’s recommendation, I replaced the coolant radiators in my 85 Testarossa with high performance versions manufactured by Wizard.

The original radiators were still intact, but corrosion was evident. They were unrepairable time bombs.

The Wizards  are fine pieces of work….although, I had to have the mounting flanges moved as they did not line up….Rather than send them back to Wizard,

I had a local guy do the fix. It added cost. Anyway, the perform very well.

Clyde is correct when he says that these cars have a mind of their own.
