The spare in my recently departed 308GT4 was the original tire and wheel.  After 40 years, all the Italian air was still in there - i.e. it had full pressure.

And, Doug, yes.  Keeping from sun and heat prevented cracking.  Tire looked like new.  Not that I would have wanted to actually use it.....
