I'll admit it, I'm one of the guys who fell for Ferrari due to the beautiful 308 showcase on Magnum. I used to watch Magnum 100% for the views of that red 308. It's why I put the poster on the wall, and why I bought my 308 a few years after grad school (and still have it). I have it for different reasons now/still, but Magnum was the start.

I agree on TC and Rick. Roger E. Moseley was excellent in the original series and the TC character is sub par now.

It is a tough bar to measure against.

The original series is one of the few timeless TV shows in history.

The writing and acting were/are excellent.

The original pilot was basically a 308 GTS brochure with plenty to look at and also an excellent bit of television.

The Magnum confronting Capt. Cooley scene is one of the best dramatic TV clips of all time.

Sadly, times change. Viewers need CGI explosions and dramatic bass drops instead of scripts and character development.

1) You don’t need to re-introduce every character and every relationship from the old series in the first episode

I’ll watch because I still love the original and I hope it will improve, but holy hell, the ending of E1 was a train wreck.

Okay, only two episodes in so not too much to make a judgement call, but, Yay or Nay?

 

It has it’s own charm, despite the fact that it’s too much a copy of the original. I think the new Higgins will be the star of the show and carry this for the rest of the series.
